Absolutely! Many of our customers have taken our floor plans and added their own special touches to fit their needs, budget, land and lifestyle. Our design experts will meet with you one on one to make sure your home design is just right for your needs.
Do I have to pick one of your plans to build from?
No you don’t. You can bring us a plan from another source and we can customize it for you. Our design professionals will assist you in developing the house plan that you have always dreamed of.
What if I have no building experience?
It doesn’t matter. We understand that building a house is a big project and may seem impossible or scary to do on your own. But Homestead Homes is here to help you every step of the way. We help make it possible for someone with no building experience to enjoy both the personal rewards and financial savings of building your own house. Where can Homestead help me build?
Homestead Homes is located in Wayne, NE. We service the state of Nebraska as well as the surrounding Midwest.
How much does it cost to build a new home?
Around $225-250 per square foot. The final cost depends on the local labor rates, type of materials, design complexity, and any additional customizations.
How long does it take to build my own home?
Once the construction starts about 6-12 months. It varies depending on several factors, including the size and complexity of the home, location, contractors you hire, and weather conditions.
What about permanent financing once the home is completed?
At Homestead, we provide you with an array of permanent financing options. Homestead has its own in house mortgage company that can tailor the permanent loan to your needs. No need to shop for a permanent loan as this is just part of our everyday service to you.
How will I find contractors that understand Homestead and their system?
Homestead has been helping customers build their own home since 1995 and has an extensive network of contractors that understand our system and want to work for our customers. But ultimately, you get to decide who will work on your new home. So you can pick whether to use a contractor you know or one that is in our network. Our construction consultants will visit your job site before you start and throughout your building process to give you the hands on support that we know is necessary to make your home a success.
Will I receive quality materials?

Are these modular or manufactured homes?
No, our homes are built on site. Our system provides you with a home that is customized to your needs and the materials are delivered to the site for your sub-contractors to use.
How does managing my home build save money?
When you take on the role of a general contractor, you save the money that you would normally have to pay someone to oversee and coordinate the project. You decide who to hire which gives you more control over your budget. Plus, you can save even more by doing some of the work on the project yourself.
How much work do I need to do in order to save money?
You won’t have to do a lot of physical work on the project. We only recommend that you take on those tasks that you feel comfortable completing. Some of our customers contract out all the physical labor and they still save money just by managing the project.
What do I have to do to qualify for a loan?
Generally, you have to have the income to support a mortgage payment for the home when it is completed. Our new home consultants and mortgage professionals will work with your personal financial situation to ensure that if you are unable to qualify for a loan today, that you know the areas of improvement to put you in a position to qualify at a later date.
What if my credit isn’t very good?
We have worked with many different customers to set them on their way to repairing their credit. If your credit isn’t sufficient today, we will help you to realize the things necessary to accomplish so you can get credit approval at a future date.
